ABOUT US

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is a Gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8). This verse was spoken in the first sermon, entitled, “The Gift” given by Pastor Nordloh on October 5, 1986.

Happy Jack Country Church has a rich history of faith and community coming together to form the church we know today. It started in 1984 with leaders of Sunnyside Baptist Church driving around the Happy Valley community to see if there was a need for a church. A bible study group formed shortly after that, followed by children’s bible study groups.

During the search for a building, the original Gilchrist Elementary school, which was built in 1959 seemed like the perfect location; however, the volunteer fire department occupied the building. In the spirit of community and since the fire department occupied the building on a part-time basis, they agreed to share it with the new church!

Today, the original school is still part of the church, being utilized for bible study, the nursery and the community hall. Happy Jack Country Church believes in everlasting life through baptism. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior and that God's word is the cornerstone of our existence.

OUR COVENANT

To be a church whose purpose is for its members to be Christlike in our daily living by emphasizing total commitment of life, personality and possessions to Christ. To be a dynamic and spiritual people empowered by the Holy Spirit of God to share Jesus Christ with people in our church, community and the world and to worship in fellowship to experience the awareness of God. To be a church that ministers unselfishly to our community in Jesus' name. To watch over one another in brotherly love; to pray for each other, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior!

OUR BELIEFS

We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired word of God and the basis of our beliefs. We subscribe to the doctrinal statements of the Baptist Faith. We are believers in baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and the Lord's Supper.

OUR COMMUNITY

Our community is a diverse mix of people who come from near and far (as far as Nebraska every Sunday). We are ranchers, homesteaders, city-folk and are all different ages and at different stages in our faith journey. We are Wyoming proud and welcome any newcomer who wants to be a part of a joyful community to learn about Jesus and grow in their biblical understanding of Christ.

Our leaders, about us

Our Leaders

Our pastors and other leaders give selflessly in the name of Jesus Christ to teach, mentor and provide a place of welcoming fellowship for our community.

Mike Wallace

I was born and raised not only in Cheyenne, but specifically right here in this community. My family attended church services at Happy Jack in the very early days of the church’s origins, and I’m proud to say I was baptized in this building in 1986. While I never would have guessed way back then that God’s path would bring me to a leadership role in this same house of worship, I took over the Pastoral position in 2020. A position previously held for 20 years by a patriarch of this entire community. Much like the previous pastor, it is important to me to remember the history of the origins of this church, and the community that built it. Meanwhile, I also understand and embrace the challenges of meeting the rapid growth in our area with a welcoming word and a personal mission to help as many people as I can in their journey to find hope, peace, and a life eternal through the redeeming waters of baptism in the name of Jesus Christ; but, my job does not stop there. I want to be an encourager of faith and perseverance for those who are looking for comfort and purpose in their existing Christian mission. I look forward to a long tenured career of teaching biblical principles and fortifying the faith of the ranchers, homesteaders, and newcomers to our community with the goal of unification of faith and the carrying of the word into the communities outside the boundaries of our own. 1 Peter 2:9 says, as Christians, we are “a chosen people, a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” We are all designed to be preachers of God’s word, and it would be my honor to help equip you with the proper tools and encouragement to be that faithful follower and teacher.
